New Business Underwriter

ROLE PURPOSE:
To underwrite new business applications for life, critical illness and income protection insurance on appropriate terms in relation to the risk.
To demonstrate and reinforce the culture and values of the company through appropriate behaviours and actions.
To underwrite new business applications and applications for reinstatement on appropriate terms in relation to the risk, using evidence based ratings and evidence based medicine.
To deal with any appeals or requests for justification of acceptance terms bearing in mind the responsibilities under the Disability Discrimination Act.
To identify any applications involving Genetic Testing and refer to the Nominated Genetics Underwriter in accordance with the ABI Genetic Code of Practice.  
To achieve the agreed Service Level Agreement.
To achieve set productivity and quality levels.
To maintain up to date medical knowledge/current affairs knowledge sufficient to enable underwriting.
To undertake special projects or research.
To correspond and communicate verbally with both internal and external customers and service providers.
To access medical and financial information for the purpose of underwriting an application for insurance.
To accept risks for life, income protection and critical illness within documented underwriting authority and philosophy.
To decline applications where the risk is clearly unacceptable.
Involvement in underwriting rules development,  including monitoring and analysis of management information 
To perform retrospective underwriting decisions on claims files.
Medical underwriting experience essential.
