Hays actively seeking an experienced commercial package and combined underwriter to underwrite new business and renewal terms within a small commercial team, primarily within the SME sector.
Classes of business include both package policies in relation to shops & offices, property owners, shopkeepers, homeworkers as well as larger combined policies covering manufacturing and distribution risks.
It is essential that you have relevant commercial insurance experience.
In detail the role involves:
Developing profitable commercial business through technical assessment of individual risk and schemes involving the negotiation and processing of suitable terms for new business, change in risk, claims and renewals.

Handling referrals and technical problem resolution for delegated authority scheme providers and electronic business users.
Role Responsibilities
Underwrite new and existing business in accordance with personal underwriting authority, regulatory requirements and company underwriting philosophy, negotiating terms with the insurance broker in order to meet the required departmental business objectives.
Complete quote, policy, referral and survey report work within the Company's key performance indicators and to the agreed productivity work levels published for the role.
In liaison with the Business Account Executives, Commercial Management, the Senior Commercial Schemes Underwriter and other team members control and review new and existing delegated authority schemes in order to meet Commercial business objectives and regulatory requirements.
In liaison with the Business Account Executives, Commercial Management, Senior Commercial Schemes Underwriter, other team members and other teams ensure identification and development of supporting and non-supporting scheme and electronic business brokers in order to meet required departmental business objectives.
In liaison with Commercial Management, the Senior Commercial Schemes Underwriter and the Systems team review and control the quality, integrity and improvement of electronic business underwriting question sets.
Consider and act on the underwriting implications of claims to minimise the potential for repetition of loss.
Accurately respond to queries raised on policies and products by brokers, surveyors and claims departments.
Respond effectively to queries raised by the accounts department and credit controllers to minimise the ‘aged debt' owing to the Company.
Participate in regular meetings to provide personal feedback on results to maximise underwriting delivery, scheme development and team effectiveness.
Handle technical referrals from less experienced colleagues in order that business can be dealt with effectively within correct authority levels and in doing so coaching colleagues to broaden their understanding and ability.
