Senior Underwriter - Speciality Risks - Motor
Salary: Up to £30,000
Location: Bristol
Our client is a very successful Multinational Insurance Company and is currently seeking a Senior Underwriter to supervise a team of Technical Underwriters. You will be responsible for supervising a small team that deal with speciality risks and handling technical referrals and complex underwriting queries coming into the business. A key part of the role to assess and quote complex risks and monitor the key accounts preparing analysis and performance reports for the Commercial and Senior Management.
Responsibilities
Studying various insurance proposals
Gathering and assessing background information
Calculating possible risk and deciding how much individuals or organisations should pay for insurance (the premiums)
Deciding whether the risk should be shared with a re-insurer
Computing results for appropriate premiums using actuarial information, other statistics and own judgment
Visiting brokers or potential customers and preparing quotes
Liaising with specialists, such as surveyors or doctors, for risk assessment
Gathering information and various types of reports (e.g. claims, premiums) from specialists or other departments
Negotiating terms with policyholders or their brokers
Ensuring that premiums are competitive with calculations
Risk control of the insurance portfolio
Specifying conditions to be imposed on different types of policies, for negotiating with brokers and drawing up contracts
Keeping detailed records of policies underwritten and decisions made by the underwriting department
To adhere to all Company Policies and Procedures, including Health & Safety, Equal Opportunities, Data Protection, Code of Conduct, Security and Use of Company Equipment & Systems Policy
To undertake any other duty or responsibility that may reasonably be allocated by your line manager/senior management
Skills
Experience within the Insurance Industry within a Technical Underwriting role
Proven ability to supervise and lead a small team
Experience in actuarial calculus, quoting, finance projections, and IT
Strong analytical, numerical and problem solving skills
Good understanding of insurance legislative and competitive environment
Strong interpersonal and communication skills including presentational
Account Management and strategic planning ability
